Where is your soap made?
Our soaps are all made in Ontario Canada. They are produced in small batches and the ingredients are all ethically sourced. We love producing small artisan soaps from our family and supplying to yours! There is no mass production here!
How long does a soap bar last?
Our soaps last 2-3 weeks with average daily use. This can differ between households, and a variety of different factors - time spent using the soap, the amount of hair, the size of the body, and the water type. To extend the length of your soap we recommend the following:
Store your soap in a place that allows it to dry in between uses. Soap trays with drainage are ideal!
Use a loofah, cloth or soap saver to create your lather rather than the bar itself.
What is the shelf life of a bar of soap?
The shelf life of our soaps is 2 years, we recommend using before then to ensure you receive the best fragrance out of your soap. While storing your soap we also recommend placing them in a cool, dry spot!
Are your bars hypoallergenic?
Our bars are made to be used on the most sensitive skin but we can not claim that they are hypoallergenic. To be safe for the most sensitive skin we recommend using our unscented options.
Can my children use the soap?
Absolutely!!! With the gentle nature of cold process soap and the pH that we are able to obtain from our formulas we are safe for the whole family.
Is there a chemical called Lye in the soap?
Lye is essential in all cold processed soaps. It is what makes all of the amazing oils we use turn into soap! At the end of the soap making process there is NO lye left in the final product! If you are shopping around and there is no lye in the ingredient list of other soaps that means that they are being made with alternative chemicals or they are not listing it as an ingredient because there is no lye left in the final product. Butterfly Creek wants to be as transparent as possible so we list ALL of the ingredients we use even if they do not remain in the final product!!
Why is your bar soap better than body wash/shower gel that I can get at my local store?
Body washes and shower gels contain emollients that moisturize your skin, but emollients contain chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate, PEGs, parabins, waxes, cocomydolpropyl betaine, sodium cocoyl isethionate, etc. These chemicals work by pulling out the moisture in your skin and replacing it with the chemical (this can be damaging), we have all had that slippery feeling skin right out of the shower but then dry off and need a lotion (we sell lotion but this is not how we want to sell products!).
We use natural emollients like kaolin clay, shea butter, and beef tallow to help you maintain all of the moisture that your skin produces instead of chemicals that "re-moisture" your skin after stripping the natural moisture!
